The “Sweet Potato Planting for Love” event, jointly organized by the Shenkeng Farmers’ Association, Tungnan University of Technology, and Shenkeng Elementary School, marked its 11th year this October 31 at the Shenkeng Paozilun Hope Market. Proceeds from the sweet potato charity sale were donated to Shenkeng Elementary School, Shenkeng Junior High School, and Tungnan University of Technology to support underprivileged students. To foster connection between the university and local charity initiatives—and to instill a sense of social engagement in faculty and students—NCCU President Kuo Ming-Cheng led a group of students and faculty to participate in harvesting and selling sweet potatoes during the event.
In addition to harvesting and selling sweet potatoes, NCCU participants also took part in food and farming education activities, sampling local ingredients and learning about the regional agricultural industry. Through this long-running community event, students and faculty gained a deeper understanding of how local acts of kindness can make an impact, and expanded their vision for realizing social responsibility.
