Guided by the College of Commerce's Hsinyi Academy and GIGABYTE Technology, MBA students launched the “Corporate Sustainability in Action: Beach Cleanup Project” this academic year. Planning began over the summer, and three events have already been held, with a goal of organizing at least ten beach cleanups throughout the year. By adopting a beach and holding recurring cleanups, the project aims to engage students in environmental issues and inspire them to reflect on how to initiate change from within and extend their influence to others, working together toward a better world.
The project is led by MBA students Min-Hsien Chang and Pei-Hsuan Tsai, who plan and coordinate each cleanup. The first cleanup took place on October 15 at Datienliao in Sanzhi District, New Taipei City, where more than 20 student volunteers participated and collected and sorted 51.66 kg of marine waste.
Based on lessons learned from the first event, the team optimized the logistics for the second cleanup on November 6 at Fanshehou Beach, also in Sanzhi. They collected 58.21 kg of marine debris. Notably, the event coincided with participant Hsié Yǒng-Qíng’s birthday, and she chose to celebrate by joining the cleanup—her meaningful gesture touched everyone involved, fueling their shared passion for protecting Taiwan’s coastline.
The third cleanup was held on November 27 at Wind Kite Park in Shimen District, New Taipei City. Despite heavy rain and strong winds, students showed up in raincoats and worked through the storm, removing 84.43 kg of trash from the beach.
The team hopes to make this project a long-standing tradition of the NCCU MBA program. They aim to help students reflect more deeply on their everyday habits, reduce personal plastic waste, and spread environmental awareness to friends and family—ultimately working together for the planet and the ocean.
In addition to the regular cleanups, two large-scale beach cleanup events are planned, and all NCCU faculty and students are warmly invited to join and take part in protecting our oceans. Follow the project’s IG page: master_of_beach_affair
