Co-hosted by NCCU’s Jinan Service Club and the Taipei Blood Center, the blood donation event “What’s Your Type? We Need You!” took place at the Octagon Pavilion on February 24 and 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., encouraging faculty and students to show compassion through blood donation.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan has seen a sharp decline in blood donations, leading to shortages that severely impact patients in need. The effectiveness of every blood drive is therefore critical, and promotion plays a key role. The club’s goal this time was to increase outreach and participation among students.

Club leaders promoted the event through their Facebook page and student forums, inviting peers to share in the cause. They also informed students of donation requirements, such as ID verification, age and weight limits, regular eating and sleep patterns, and post-vaccine waiting periods. Medical staff on-site evaluated each donor’s eligibility with care and professionalism.

Though Wenshan District is often rainy in early spring, the weather cleared during the event, bringing students and faculty together to support the drive. Many students donated blood for the first time, making the event especially meaningful. One finance major, Mr. Tai, said he learned about the event via social media and felt it was a meaningful way to give back. Another student, Mr. Yeh from Land Economics, said the event gave him another chance to help society through a small act of kindness.

The event collected 60 bags of blood on day one and 84 on day two, totaling 144 bags over two days. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and uncertain weather, the event received a warm response. The organizers thank all donors and supporters. Students who missed this round will have another chance, as the next blood drive is scheduled for June 1 and 2—everyone is welcome to join and make a difference.
