Rally and Forum on Ukraine
On March 3, dozens of students from the International College of Innovation (ICI) gathered at NCCU’s Roman Square for the #StandWithUkraine and #StopPutin rally, voicing support for peace and condemning Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Holding signs like “We are ICI students, we support Ukraine,” both local and international students declared their stand for peace. Professors from the Departments of Diplomacy and Sociology offered brief analyses of the Ukraine–Russia conflict and its parallels with the Taiwan Strait. Students from NCCU and guest speaker Ričardas Sedinkinas from Lithuania, founder of “Stand With Ukraine – Taiwan,” expressed solidarity and gratitude for NCCU’s support.
“True to ICI’s spirit of innovation, we believe that creating a more harmonious and prosperous society begins by standing on the side of truth and justice,” said ICI student Girard Mariano Lopez, calling for action to ease Ukraine’s suffering.
The Student Association reiterated its anti-war stance, praised Ukraine’s defenders, urged humanitarian aid, and warned against misinformation and defeatism. “While direct support is difficult,” the statement read, “Taiwan must join other democracies in firmly opposing Russian aggression.”
Beyond the rally, ICI will host flash courses and a public forum featuring experts such as Vice Dean Lien Hsien-Ming, Academia Sinica researcher Wu Chien-Hui, and IR Center researcher Yuan Yi. These sessions will explore the war’s implications through the lenses of economics, energy, human rights, and democratic governance, aiming to foster informed discussion and civic awareness.
