National Chengchi University (NCCU), in collaboration with the Taipei Branch of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, and the Tea Research and Extension Station, is jointly promoting the "Greater Taipei Tea Route" project. To fulfill social responsibility and respond to rural revitalization and young farmers returning home, NCCU has mobilized alumni to form the "50+1 Social Enterprise," where 50 consumers support one farmer. By helping with product sales and agricultural experience, the project aims to revitalize the local tea industry in the Dawan Mountain area.
The "Return Home Young Farmers’ One-Mu Tea──50+1 Support for Farmers" joint marketing press conference was held on September 15 at the second-floor plaza of the NCCU Administration Building. The event included a signing ceremony for the "Dawan Mountain Tea Culture Revival Cross-Domain Strategic Alliance" and "Support for Dawan Mountain Tea Culture and Industry Promotion." Guests from industry, government, and academia attended the ceremony. The guests included Jian Junfa, director of the Taipei Branch of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau; Su Zongzhen, director of the Tea Research and Extension Station; Shi Deyang, secretary of the New Taipei City Agricultural Bureau; Lu Anbang, founder of Hive Digital Technology; as well as NCCU President Guo Mingzhen, Director of General Affairs Zhang Qiheng, Deputy Director of the Office of University Social Responsibility Zuo Ruilin, and alumni representative Yang Yongfang.
The Wuzhishan area, where NCCU is located, has long been known for its Tie Guan Yin tea. The neighboring areas of Shenkeng, Shiding, Pinglin, and Xindian are collectively referred to as the "Dawan Mountain Area," with Wenshan Baozhong tea being particularly famous. "The mountain behind NCCU (Zhinan Mountain) is the sacred mountain of tea," President Guo Mingzhen remarked. He pointed out that since NCCU is located in one of Taiwan’s most important tea regions, the university must take responsibility for the revival of tea culture and hopes to work together with all parties to assist in local development and improve farmers’ lives. Alumni representative Yang Yongfang expressed full support for the initiative, hoping to leverage alumni power to support social enterprises and contribute to environmental protection.
"Doing the 'Three Safeties' right, agricultural-friendly cycles in the tea industry start here," Su Zongzhen proposed the "Three Safeties" concept, focusing on "Agricultural Safety," "Food Safety," and "Environmental Safety." In the future, the Tea Research Station will work to reduce pesticide use and shift to biological control and non-pesticide farming methods. Furthermore, they will promote off-ground tea production methods to improve hygiene safety and quality. Starting from basic agricultural safety and advancing to food and environmental safety, they aim to achieve the ultimate goal of agricultural-friendly cycles through layered checks.
Jian Junfa mentioned that the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau will continue to collaborate with the Tea Research Station and hopes to establish a tea culture education venue at NCCU's Meiyuan, integrating the expertise of NCCU professors and various colleges to continue promoting tea culture. He also added that Dawan Mountain is an important landmark for the tea industry, and the Bureau is willing to serve as a platform for integration and assistance, collaborating with various organizations and departments to expand possibilities.
In 2020, under the support of the Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program, NCCU launched the Rural Revitalization initiative, which includes the "Greater Taipei Tea Route Cultural Path Plan," the "Urban Periphery Li Mountain Under-forest Economy and Rural Resort Model Plan," and the "50+1 Social Enterprise" as a sustainable base for Dawan Mountain revitalization. This time, NCCU participated in cross-domain cooperation for tea culture revival and launched the "Dawan Mountain Tea Gift Box" composed of Baozhong tea and Tie Guan Yin from Pinglin and Wuzhishan young farmers, advocating for the young farmers' philosophy and strengthening the connection between tea culture revival and young farmers. Through this initiative, NCCU hopes to promote tea-drinking habits among young people and expand production and the transmission of tea culture concepts.
The first batch of the Dawan Mountain Tea Gift Box was produced in a limited quantity of 1,800 sets. The NCCU Alumni Service Center was the first to purchase 500 sets to support the continued cultivation of good tea by young farmers, encouraging more corporate alumni to join the response and help complete the 1,800 sets "Dawan Mountain Tea Gift Box" purchase campaign, thus contributing to the revitalization of the Dawan Mountain tea industry and culture.
