The NCCU Industry-Academia Operations and Innovation Incubation Center has now completed its 3rd anniversary since it was upgraded to a first-level unit. In the 109th academic year, it facilitated over 100 million NTD in funding for the faculty and students of the university, and helped multiple startup teams win numerous awards, receiving recognition from political, business, and media authorities. The Chief Operating Officer of the Innovation and Industry Collaboration Center, Yan Yuming, expressed gratitude to the university faculty for their contributions to industry-academic cooperation and hopes that the Center will continue to leverage its platform to bring the university’s top research results into action, assisting domestic industries with diverse innovation and achieving international visibility.
The Industry-Academia Operations and Innovation Incubation Center (Industry-Academia Center) was established in October 106, and upgraded to a first-level unit on February 1 the following year. The Center is responsible for cross-department industry-academia collaboration projects, intellectual property management consulting, and innovation incubation. In response to the "post-pandemic era," in 110, the "NCCU BIG Business Innovation Global League" was officially established to connect alumni from various industries, providing internal research teams with new knowledge and energy. The goal is to help businesses innovate, transform, and upgrade, enhancing overall competitiveness and aligning with global economic trends.
Promoting Industry-Academia Cooperation, Attracting Over 100 Million NTD in Funding
In the 109th academic year, under the guidance of Vice President Zhao Yi, the Industry-Academia Center negotiated 9 industry-academia collaboration projects with the Yongqing Real Estate Group, resulting in over 30 million NTD in R&D funding for NCCU. Among these projects, 5 are expected to meet their targets and be completed this year, and 4 others are in the negotiation stage, with fruitful results expected soon.
Accounting Department Professor Wu Anni also collaborated with the Industry-Academia Center to secure a 3-year "Academia-Industry Research Center Program (AIR Center Program)" grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and jointly established the "NCCU-DiYang Joint R&D Center" with alumni from DiYang Enterprises. The center invested 70 million NTD to cultivate high-level research talents. This project is one of NCCU's rare large-scale industry-academia collaborations in the industrial field and the first on-campus R&D base, offering students and faculty the valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and providing companies with rare smart manufacturing talents.
Record High Venue Utilization, Innovative Creative Activities with Strong Reputation
In addition to the "NCCU-DiYang Joint R&D Center" making a strong debut, the Industry-Academia Center also successfully managed the Research and Innovation Incubation Center (NCCU's Innovation and Industry Collaboration Center) with a venue utilization rate of 96.7%, the highest since its completion. At the same time, through hosting numerous lectures and workshops to activate the space, the "Creative Monetization" series of events attracted over a thousand participants in the 109th academic year. The "Video Production Workshop" alone held 6 sessions, training hundreds of creative video talents and passing the Ministry of Labor's TTQS (Talent Development Quality Management System) certification.
Gathering Startup Energy, Continuously Receiving Recognition from the Government and Media
The Industry-Academia Center also incubated several outstanding startups. Package+ promoted "Eco-friendly Online Packaging," which raised over 6 million NTD through crowdfunding on the platform FlyingV and received high praise from Digital Government Minister Audrey Tang; "Mountain Monkey" combined AR cameras with real-world puzzle games and launched several popular game apps, which were specially recommended by Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan. Recently, with the assistance of the Industry-Academia Center, the company received a 950,000 NTD subsidy from the Taipei Zoo's Animal Adoption and Conservation Program to develop a zoo-themed online game.
New-Style Creative and Incubation Activities, Integrating Regional Revitalization and Cultural Content Industry
Now in its 3rd year, COO Yan Yuming stated that the Industry-Academia Center will accelerate its pace and expand the range of courses. It will integrate with regional revitalization and the Taipei Tea Route USR, and is actively seeking technical authorization from the Council of Agriculture’s Tea Research Station to launch "Tea Sensory Evaluation Courses." Besides learning to taste, love, and distinguish tea flavors and colors, those who pass the test will also receive a "Tea Sensory Evaluation Professional Talent Certification (beginner level)." In addition, the Center plans to introduce new-style creative activities, including training in performing arts, pop music, and cultural content industry talent cultivation, as well as stage performance etiquette and exhibition management. Students interested in these areas are welcome to join.
Looking Ahead: Industry-Academia Center’s 3rd Anniversary and "NCCU BIG" Launch
Looking forward to the new year, the Industry-Academia Center will accelerate the integration of on-campus and off-campus innovation and entrepreneurial resources and R&D capabilities under the theme of "Connecting Industry and Academia, Innovation and Incubation," calling for the "NCCU BIG" initiative. The goal is to provide accelerated incubation, resource integration, intellectual property management, strategic planning, legal and tax consultation, and industry-academia collaboration opportunities. We welcome faculty, staff, alumni, and students to join in this growth.
