SDGs

To cultivate social practice and innovative talents, build community awareness, and encourage public participation, this project is based on the concept of "Prospering Wenshan." It aims to foster students' connection to local culture and their identification with social service work, enhancing their ability to discover and creatively solve social issues. Additionally, this project establishes relationships with residents and local organizations in Wenshan District, Taipei City, to provide mutual support and assistance, shaping community identity and encouraging voluntary participation in public affairs, ultimately achieving the goal of sustainable community development.

  1. Short-term Goal
Pilot interventions in Wenshan District’s Ankang Community and Xinglong social housing to engage residents, identify challenges, and implement solutions.
  2. Mid-term Goal
Scale the project from nearby NCCU neighborhoods to the wider Greater Wenshan area, amplifying visibility and impact.
  3. Long-term Goal
Advocate poverty-related policy reforms to dismantle social divides, foster community cohesion, and lay the groundwork for sustainable development grounded in shared values.

The short-term goal of this project is to focus on the "Ankang Community" and "Xinglong Social Housing" in Wenshan District as the primary areas for practice, delving into the community to identify and address issues. The medium-term goal is to expand the project to nearby communities around NCCU and the greater Wenshan area, accumulating awareness and influence. The long-term goal is to advocate for the improvement or creation of poverty-related policies, with the aim of reversing class divisions and cultural isolation while building a foundation for community identity and sustainable development – pursuing the shared value of a better future.

The goals of this project can be viewed from two perspectives: domestic social practice and international connection planning, which are described as follows: Domestic Social Practice Planning:

  1. Fostering innovative talents at NCCU: Cultivate students' connection to local culture and social service work, enhancing their ability to identify social issues and solve them through innovative approaches.
  2. Building community awareness among Wenshan District residents and strengthening their public participation: Establish relationships with residents and local organizations in Wenshan District, creating community identity and awareness, encouraging residents to voluntarily participate in public affairs, ultimately achieving the goal of sustainable community development.
  3. Helping Ankang community residents reverse their class status and eliminate stereotypes: Provide various services and support to Ankang community residents, reduce barriers to improving their economic conditions, advocate for corrections to existing poverty policies and laws, and challenge the common social stereotypes about the poor and residents of Ankang's public housing.

International Connection Practice Planning: This project aims to reduce inequalities, including disparities in economic, ethnic, educational, and labor resources, while building community awareness, fostering community identity, and promoting residents' participation in public affairs. It seeks to establish local autonomy and sustainable community development. This project will integrate existing courses and newly developed ones to form a university social practice and community co-prosperity credit program to cultivate social innovation international talents. Among these, the "University Social Responsibility International PBL Course" will be the international cooperation course, including scheduled mutual visits, international internships, co-hosted workshops, and content exchange to promote capacity building.

This project sets four main axes for child and family services, new immigrant care, legal aid, and support for economically disadvantaged groups. It develops corresponding sub-projects and integrates existing or newly introduced courses at the university to cultivate social practice and innovative talents in the field. On one hand, students apply their expertise to solve local social issues, and on the other hand, they establish an academic foundation for these issues. Additionally, the project promotes the stories from the field, spreads the related results, and attracts more resources from those who care about the same issues. Through this implementation approach, the project aims to expand its scope to the greater Wenshan area, accumulate the project’s visibility and public influence, and ultimately advocate for and assist the government in formulating or improving public housing policies, fundamentally changing the societal stereotypes of public housing and the poor.

As the social issues of new immigrants and poverty addressed by this project are also international concerns, the project collaborates with internationally renowned universities, academic institutions, and other organizations. This includes co-developing courses, offering international internships, conducting scheduled mutual visits, joint field surveys, and co-hosting workshops and seminars. The project aims to align its implementation outcomes with international exchange, supporting sustainable development in other international fields.
