The University Social Responsibility (USR) "Xinglong Ankang, Mutual Benefit Wenshan" community cooperation project team of NCCU invited Principal Zhang Liping of NCCU Affiliated High School, Director Li Chenfu of the Student Affairs Office, Principal Huang Yunjin of Jingmei Girls' High School, Director Jiang Xinliang of the Student Affairs Office, Principal Liu Weirui of Wanfang High School, and Director Huang Yuxun of the Library to discuss the cooperation between universities and high schools on February 19. Vice President Wang Wenjie mentioned in his opening speech that NCCU has been working hard for many years in promoting university social responsibility and has accumulated enough energy to expand cooperation with high schools in Wenshan District. He hopes that high school teachers and students will participate in the USR project, and the cooperation between NCCU and high schools will strengthen mutual exchanges. The project executive director, Wang Xinshi, also emphasized: "The NCCU USR mutual benefit Wenshan project is not just about serving the community, but a commitment and long-term accompaniment. Partners involved in the project work with professionalism and passion to strive for mutual benefit in the community."
The "Xinglong Ankang, Mutual Benefit Wenshan" USR project has been deeply rooted in the Ankang community in Taipei. The four main themes of the project are child and family care, new immigrant concerns, legal aid, and support for economically disadvantaged groups. The goal is to use the university's teaching and research capabilities to assist the community in empowerment, while providing faculty and students with the opportunity to contribute their academic abilities and professional knowledge to society. This year marks the fourth year of the project. In addition to continuing the efforts in the Ankang community, the team plans to expand the project to neighboring educational institutions, extending the "talent cultivation" aspect of university social responsibility to secondary education. This meeting focused on discussing the cooperation model between high schools and universities to achieve the goal of mutual benefit between universities, high schools, and communities.
During the meeting, Principal Huang of Jingmei Girls' High School, a local Wenshan resident, expressed her support for the USR project in Ankang, a community often negatively labeled as a place of crime and dirt. Principal Liu of Wanfang High School, which includes many students from Ankang, shared that by guiding students to recognize their community and contribute to their own neighborhood, it could positively impact both students and the community. Principal Zhang of NCCU Affiliated High School and Director Li raised three potential cooperation models, hoping that through this cooperation, NCCU faculty and students could take a leadership role in guiding high school students to understand social issues, generate ideas, and produce executable plans in the community.
In this meeting, the USR team at NCCU, together with the high schools, reached a consensus to offer a specialized course on social responsibility. Students from all three high schools will use their flexible course hours to attend classes at both NCCU and the high schools. The course aims to create an interactive platform for students to exchange ideas, focusing on values clarification and guidance to cultivate empathy for society and help students understand their roles within it. The pilot program will begin in the first semester of the 110th academic year. The goal is to cultivate students with an awareness of social issues and the ability to solve problems using professional knowledge, while also providing more opportunities for exchange between the three high schools and NCCU. If the program proves successful, the USR project team will invite more schools to join the collaboration, optimizing the integration and sharing of resources.
